Steve Saddleback is a dedicated leader and advocate for Indigenous communities. He is proudly from the Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis, Alberta, located within Treaty Six Territory. As a Partner at Opimoyaso Group, a 100% Indigenous-owned firm, he employs his extensive expertise to drive meaningful initiatives that empower Indigenous participation in the economy.
In addition to his role at Opimoyaso Group, Steve is a Senior Advisor in External Relations for the First Nations Major Projects Coalition. With a diverse background that spans national and international organizations, Steve has built a robust career in finance, real estate investment, banking, economic development, and government relations. His advocacy extends to non-profit sectors, education, career development, and fiscal relations, underscoring his commitment to community advancement.
Steve co-chaired the First Nations Site Rehabilitation Program, working collaboratively with the Government of Alberta to ensure the effective rehabilitation of lands affected by Oil and Gas activities. He also brings entrepreneurial experience as a former partner in an oil and gas lease construction company based in Northeastern British Columbia.
As a board member for several organizations, including Renfrew Educational Services, Clean Resource Innovation Network, Equitable Origin, and an advisor for IndigeSteam, Steve continues to contribute to developing innovative solutions that support Indigenous rights and interests.
Steve is a Fellow of the Energy Futures Lab and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors through the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is passionate about ensuring the meaningful involvement of Indigenous communities across all sectors, with a particular focus on the energy industry.
