Kara Moss is an Indigenous (Ojibway from Brokenhead First Nation) dedicated therapist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, with over 20 years of clinical experience. She holds a master’s in social work. Her traditional name is White Swan, and she is from the Crane Clan.
Kara has been working with TELUS for four years and co-led the development of the Indigenous Cognitive Behavioral Program, which launched on June 21, 2022. The program is an on-line therapist assisted Cognitive behavioral base intertwined with Indigenous knowledge. In September of 2023, she spoke at the Healing Our Spirits Worldwide Conference in Vancouver to showcase the New Dawn Indigenous Program.
Kara holds a holistic health perspective and a strengths-based approach to supporting health and healing. She has a range of experiences implementing health interventions from individual to population - health levels with strong skills in relationship building, leadership, and project management.
In 2006, she opened Samsara Therapy Corp, which offers Evidence-Based Therapy to a wide clientele base. In addition, Kara provides specialized services to youth, families involved with the Child Welfare System, and individuals as well as Families of Missing and Murdered Women. As a 60s scoop survivor, Kara focuses on being an advocate to Indigenous children and women, local communities and Northern Manitoba communities.
Her passion for using her skills and knowledge goes beyond borders. Kara has partnered with non-profit organizations in Mexico and Sierra Leone focused on developing education and promoting wellness in rural communities.
Kara is on a personal journey to learn more about her Ojibway ancestors and culture, as she was separated from them early in life. She believes true healing can only occur by fostering spaces and creating structures that balance body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Kara is passionate about removing racial and discriminatory barriers; while walking alongside the individuals and communities she serves in a spirit of compassion, and collaboration.
It is her goal to continue expanding these relationships to reach as many areas, communities, and people as possible.
