Amanda Bernard is a member of the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation, Founder of Shawish Market, and Director of Indigenous Programs at the Laidlaw Foundation. Committed to supporting Indigenous artists, Amanda launched Shawish Market, a decolonized marketplace that empowers Indigenous artists by not charging any vendor fees. She actively serves on the boards of the Philanthropy Canada Foundation (PFC) and the Advisory Committee of the Canadian Women’s Foundation (CWF) and Indigenous People Resilience Fund (IPRF). Amanda resides in Tkaronto, ON, with roots in Ottawa, ON, and Edmundston, NB. Her ancestral name, Shawish, was changed to Bernard due to historical pressures.
