Speaker Bio
Dr. Veronica Santafe is a dedicated advocate for sustainable development and Indigenous-led social innovation, finding inspiration in her roots as a Panzaleo and Campesino Mestizo from Cotopaxi, Ecuador. As a mother, author, practitioner, and community leader, Veronica's passion lies in empowering historically marginalized communities, particularly those she has lived among.
With a Ph.D. in Environment and Sustainability, combined with her deep-rooted understanding of the values of community work and land-based teachings passed down from her parents and ancestors, Veronica offers a unique lens on environmental and economic issues, particularly in Indigenous contexts.
She is the co-founder of Mujeres de la Pacha and Semillas del Campo, two non-for-profit organizations aiming to empower Indigenous women and girls on their economic, education, and health rights. She has served as a volunteer for organizations promoting sustainable entrepreneurship in Latin America and Canada such as Indigenous Clean Energy, Inti Anka Taripay, Centro Cultural Arutam, and Ekpapalek.
Currently serving as the Research Engagement Manager at the University of Regina, Veronica is actively involved in building bridges between Western academic institutions and Indigenous organizations worldwide. Her work is dedicated to fostering respectful relationships and promoting collaborative efforts for a more just and sustainable future.
