This presentation covers two case studies, the first relates to a zero emissions voyage to collect cocoa beans from farmers in Bougainville and delivering them to Aotearoa New Zealand’s Wellington Chocolate Factory. The second relates to an intra-island trade initiative following Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu. I share my experiences as a traditional navigator and seafarer and the opportunities that exist relating to sustainable transport and indigenous trade in the Pacific Islands.
